The temperature at which snow forms influences the shape and characteristics the snowflakes. In the simplest possible terms, colder means drier, fluffy snow, which has a greater depth, for the same amount of water.
One inch of water at 30 degrees will make 10 inches (depth) of snow.
One inch of water at -10 degrees will make 50 inches (depth) of snow
The weight will be exactly the same.
As an example, a little over an inch of water (precipitation) when it is very cold (-10 degrees) will result in 5 feet of snow.
At just around freezing it will be around on foot of snow.
